Education: Surgical T! echnician Course
Experience/Qualifications: The Operating Room Surgical Technician will meet one of the following minimum requirements to be eligible for employment per SC State Law 44-7-380:
- Certification form an accredited Surg Tech educational program and;
Evidence of a minimum of 15 hours CEU’s annually (regardless if employed or not with GHS throughout the entire calendar year)
- Certified as Surg Tech by the US Army, Navy, Air Force, marine Corps, Coast Guard or US Public Health Service and;
- Evidenced that the individual was employed to practice as a Surg Tech in a South Carolina Healthcare facility or the federal govt prior to Jan 1, 2008. (br! eak in service will not disqualify the individual as long as e! mployment as a Surg tech is documented prior to Jan 1, 2008) and;
Special Skills: Works with patients, families and other health care providers.
Other:
American Heart Association Healthcare provider course with Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required to be initially completed with the GHS Staff Development Office within 30 calendar days of hire date (exceptions to obtain certification from a provider other than the GHS Staff Development Office are approved by Staff development on a case by case basis). BLS Recertification is required every two years.
Physical Requirements: Medium While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently (activity or condition exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) required to stand, sit, and walk; occasionally (activity or condition exist! s up to 1/3 of the time) to use hands, fingers; and frequently to talk or hear. The employee must exert 20 to 35 pounds of force occasionally , and/or 10 to 15 pounds of force frequently , and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Position Summary: The Operating Room Technician participates in planning and implementing the patient care under the
supervision of the Circulating Registered Nurse and based on the Nursing Process. The Operating Room Technician assists the surgeon
during operative procedures, ensures the operating suite is adequately prepared for the procedure, monitors PAR levels of supplies and
equipment, and participates in the cleaning and sterilization o! f surgical instruments.
