Job Summary
Assists physicians and advanced clinical practitioners with patient care, clerical, environmental, and! organizational tasks. Schedules appointments and maintains me! dical record. Provides information to patients so they may fully utilize the benefit from the practice service. Maintains clinical and professional competency as appropriate to the ages, developmental stages and special needs of the population served.
Essential Functions
- Records patient's general condition. Takes and records vital signs and patient height and weight.
- Assists physicians and advanced clinical practitioners with examinations, diagnostic procedures, and treatments.
- Participates in procedure verification/universal protocol in the absence of an RN.
- Assists with patient inquiries for prescription refills, appointment scheduling and referral authorizations as needed.
- Documents all patient care/interactions in patient medical record.
- Promotes wellness by providing patient education materials and communication of physician advice and instructions.
- Inspects all emergency medical equipment! , diagnostic testing equipment, and all other medical and surgical instruments and equipment to ensure they are properly cleaned, maintained, and in good working order.
- Assists with inventory, ordering and distribution of supplies and pharmaceuticals excluding controlled substances.
- Responds quickly to patient medical status and initiates the emergency response system as necessary.
- Completes CLA approved waived laboratory test and proactive specific diagnostic testing.
- Performs facility acuity coding by selecting the appropriate level of service for adverse patient population, ensuring that all pertinent clinical information is documented in the patient's medical record and supports the level of service selected.
Varied activities including standing, walking, reaching, bending and lifting. Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-h! and coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods o! f time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal ranges. Critical thinking and ability to concentrate. Must be able to respond quickly to change in patient and/or unit/clinic conditions.
Education, Experience and Certifications
High School Diploma or GED required. Completion of LPN program with current, valid license or valid CMA/RMA designation required. 2 years verifiable clinical work experience required. Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) from AHA required.
