Who We Are:
The Modern Classrooms Project is a fast-growing nonprofit organization that empowers educators to build classrooms that respond to every student’s needs. Founded by two award-winning teachers, we lead a movement of educators in implementing a self-paced, mastery-based instructional model that leverages technology to foster human connection, authentic learning, and social-emotional growth.
To date, our free online course and Virtual Mentorship Program have empowered 60,000+ educators in 150+ countries. We’ve partnered with 200+ schools and districts to train and support both teachers and administrators, and researchers from Johns Hopkins University found “overwhelming positive support” for our approach. We are an ambitious, idealistic team and we are passionate about what we do.
Why We Need You:
Data drives everything that MCP does. We use data to find partners and donors, recruit educators, deliver high-quality training and support, and measure our impacts.
As we’ve grown, so too has the amount of data we’ve collected - particularly about our educators’ experiences during and after the training we provide. We collect surveys, track engagement with our courses and support services, and (when we can find the time) conduct site visits, focus groups, and interviews. We can rarely find the time.
We now find ourselves in an enviable position: too much interesting data, not enough capacity to analyze it - much less use what we learn to improve the training and support we provide. And that’s where you come in! We need you to:
-
Support with the collection and analysis of data from our teacher training and support programs.
- Use what you learn to suggest actionable improvements to our programming.
We aim to provide the best teacher training on the planet. Through data analysis, you’ll help us do that.
What You’ll Do:
You will report directly to MCP’s Vice President of Evaluation & Data Systems, who oversees all of MCP’s research and continuous improvement efforts. In this role, you will:
- Analyze qualitative and quantitative data from program participants, including but not limited to data on program engagement and completion, satisfaction, and suggestions for improvement.
- Design, conduct, and synthesize learnings from experiments.
- Conduct mixed-methods research on educators’ experiences with MCP training and support, including but not limited to focus groups, user interviews, surveys, and observations.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for data-related questions regarding MCP’s programs, from MCP staff as well as external stakeholders.
- Work closely with MCP’s Program Team to suggest and test the impact of continued improvements made to MCP’s products and services.
- Conduct literature reviews, market research, and/or landscape analyses.
- Share data findings with a variety of stakeholders, from researchers to prospective donors and customers, and ensure that deliverables (reports, briefs, etc.) are customized to stakeholders’ unique needs.
You’ll spend your days making sure that every programming decision MCP makes is informed by data.
You Should Apply If:
-
You love data. You’re excited about opening large datasets and uncovering the truths hidden within. You obsess over the wording of questions, to make sure they measure what you really want. You could talk for hours about your favorite regression techniques.
-
You’re action-oriented. Insights are good; actions inspired by insights are better. You consider what each of your findings means for the program in question, and the human beings affected by it. You always ask “so what?”
-
You like working in teams. Everyone needs data, so everyone needs you. You welcome that! You love answering others’ questions, or explaining to others what you’ve found, or helping others solve a challenge. You don’t feel successful unless others do too.
-
You’re eager to learn. You relish the challenge of mastering a new platform or system, and using it to empower others. You’re experienced and highly skilled using databases and statistical-analysis software. When you don’t know how to do something, you figure it out.
- You want to shape the world. You’re motivated to be part of something larger than yourself. You believe that the highest value of your talent is using it to empower others. You care about your legacy. You realize that this job won’t pay what the private sector can, and you’re okay with that.
Job Requirements and Skills
- Familiarity with qualitative and quantitative data analysis techniques.
- Understanding of user experience research (focus groups, interviews, A-B testing, etc.)
- Experience writing data summaries, reports, or creating visualizations (charts, dashboards).
- Familiarity with Salesforce is preferred, but not required.
Compensation and Benefits: We offer a competitive compensation package, as well as the opportunity to work in a fast-growing nonprofit that is on a mission to improve education worldwide. This includes:
- Salaried Position: $80,000+ per year
- Employer-sponsored health insurance through CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield
- Participation in Vanguard 403(b) deferred-compensation plan
- Generous Paid Time Off policies
- Ability to work remotely and to set own hours (within reason)
STATEMENT OF NON-DISCRIMINATION: The Modern Classrooms Project is committed to equal employment opportunity. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, gender, disability, age, religion, sexual orientation, nationality, or ethnicity. We are strongly committed to hiring a diverse team and encourage applications from traditionally under-represented backgrounds.
COMMITMENT TO DIVERSITY, EQUITY, & INCLUSION: We are committed to the work of diversity, equity, and inclusion so that every day, in every classroom, every student is seen, challenged, and supported. We recognize the impact of educational inequities, especially on historically underserved communities, and will be intentional in developing practical solutions that remove barriers to student achievement. We understand that to effectively promote change, we must be stewards of it in the workplace. We will ensure that diversity, equity, and inclusion are at the forefront of our decision-making, recruiting practices, organization policies, advancement opportunities, and treatment of each other. Through leading by example and continuous learning from teachers, community partners, and each other, we will establish MCP as a leader in developing equity and inclusion in the classroom and beyond.
