About:

A Tractor Operator operates a tractor with various attachments and supervises a small crew in grading and reconditioning athletic fields and tracks, installing and reconditioning baseball diamonds, and in general landscape work, including weed abatement.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operates a tractor that pulls attachments, such as a scraper, scarifier, aerator, harrow, and drag in order to grade and recondition athletic fields, resurface tracks, and install and recondition baseball diamonds, track and field runways, and jumping pits.
  • Maintains, services, and makes minor repairs to tractors and attached equipment.
  • Supervises a small crew in grading and reconditioning work.
  • Consults with coaches and school administrators on layout and conditioning of athletic tracks and fields.
  • Notifies the Landscaping Supervisor of apparent discrepancies in quality of soils and fertilizers delivered by vendors.
  • May operate a tractor that includes an attachment, such as a rotovator, gannon, clam shell bucket, blade, power auger, or discs for purposes of weed abatement, grading, and other landscape work on District properties

Minimum Requirements

Education: Graduation from high school or evidence of equivalent educational proficiency.

Experience: One year of experience in driving and the minor maintenance of a tractor and related equipment used in track and field reconditioning and landscaping.

Special: A valid California Driver License. Use of an automobile.

Special Abilities:

  • Safely lift and carry items weighing up to 100 pounds
  • Stamina to perform strenuous physical labor over extended periods
  • Good vision and depth perception

All employees must be fully COVID-19 vaccinated and must be able to provide verification of their vaccination status as part of the hiring and onboarding process prior to an official offer of employment to any District site; this includes current employees who are being promoted to a new job class.

Desirable Qualifications

The ideal Tractor Operator will possess knowledge of the following:

  • Operation of tractors, cultivators, discs, drags, scrapers, and harrows as related to the grading and maintenance of school grounds and athletic fields
  • Common names of plants used in the District
  • Grading, leveling, and drainage of athletic fields and tracks
  • Appropriate types and proportions of soils, fertilizers, and seed required for reconditioning work
  • Safety procedures for operating and maintaining equipment
  • Interscholastic Sports Federation rules and regulations pertaining to various recreational field specifications.
  • Functionally supervise a crew in the performance of tracks and field reconditioning and general landscape work
  • Safely and effectively operate tractors and related equipment

NOTE: Positions in this job classification may be offered on a 10 or 11 month basis - salary and paid time off for 10 or 11 month positions will be adjusted accordingly.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $41.50 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
