High School Diploma or GED. Knowledge of the laws of the State of South Carolina. Ability to communicate effectively, courtesy and firmly wit! h the general public. Ability to investigate accidents, disturbances and violations. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must be able to communicate effectively orally via radio, telephone and personal conversation, as well as in writing. Knowledge of the practices and techniques of safety, security, or fire protection. Ability to act quickly and intelligently in emergency situations. Ability to adjust to fluctuating situations. Maintain peace and decorum; read and write reports; successfully complete all mandated training requirements. Must be CPR (Basic Responder) and first aid (basic responder) certified. Must complete training in fire extinguisher inspections and Evac-U-Time chair operations. All training and certifications must be completed within 6 months of hire.
Additional Comments Regarding Position
Ability to patrol and pursue ! suspects on foot. Capable of moving or lifting heavy objects o! r persons during rescue activities. Work under all weather extremes. Perform shift work and/or extended hours; monitor audible/visual security alarms and observation devices. Respond to fire alarms and be able to climb several flights of stairs. Work involves shift work and some overtime. Comes in contact on daily basis with faculty, staff, students, employees, and visitors. Must be able to use tact and communicate clearly with the public.
