Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life

in the Division of Student Affairs. This is a significantly upgraded position, reflecting th! e university’s commitment to the fraternity and sorority com! munity. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs and Executive Director of the Gantt Center for Student Life, the Director is responsible for providing leadership with regard to strategic planning, risk management and community development for the fraternity and sorority community at Clemson University, which is comprised of approximately 25% of the undergraduate student body. This includes identifying areas for development and improvement with regard to the overall community, developing innovative programs and services to advance the goals of the community, developing policies and expectations to educate students/chapters regarding community standards, and involving students, advisors, residential life staff, university administrators and inter/national organization staff as partners throughout the process.

The Director is also responsible for providing leadership and serving as a role model and mentor for the full-time staff and graduate assi! stants within Fraternity and Sorority Life.

Qualifications include a Master’s Degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education, Counseling or related field with at least five (5) years of progressively responsible leadership experience advising fraternities and sororities on a college campus (including experience with historically black fraternities and sororities and culturally and ethnically diverse Greek letter organizations).

The person holding this position must have the following knowledge, skills and experience:

A thorough knowledge of higher education’s role in America and the theories and practices related to the development of college students.

Extensive knowledge of the College Panhellenic Council, Interfraternity Council and National Pan-Hellenic Council governance (including chapter practices and traditions

Extensive familiarity with inter/national offices and a thorough knowledge of risk management and related polici! es.

Experience with crisis management and response.

E! xperience in advising student organizations and planning and assessing co-curricular programs that foster student success and enhance student learning.

Skills in interpersonal relations (including relating to diverse individuals and groups) as well as excellent oral and written communication skills.

Membership in a Greek letter organization and previous experience supervising professional staff are preferred. Fraternity and Sorority Housing experience in a residence hall setting is also preferred.

The salary range for this position is $50,000 - $65,000.
