We are seeking a resourceful and skilled individual to join our team as a Freight Dispatcher for our box trucking company. As a Freight Dispatcher, your primary responsibility will be to locate available freight using load boards, establish connections with brokers, negotiate freight rates, and coordinate the dispatch of drivers while optimizing their routes. This is a 1099 position with the potential for transition to a W2 role as the company grows, offering opportunities for professional growth. Pay for this role will be determined based on a percentage model.
Key Responsibilities:
Freight Sourcing and Negotiation: Utilize load boards, personal connections, and other resources to identify available freight that needs to be shipped. Engage with brokers and negotiate favorable freight rates, considering factors such as distance, load requirements, and delivery timelines.
Dispatch Operations: Efficiently assign drivers and vehicles to freight loads based on availability, driver expertise, and load specifications. Ensure that drivers are dispatched promptly and equipped with all necessary documentation and instructions for successful delivery.
Route Planning and Optimization: Collaborate with drivers and utilize routing software to optimize delivery routes, considering factors such as distance, traffic conditions, and time constraints. Make real-time adjustments to routes when necessary to accommodate unforeseen circumstances.
Communication and Coordination: Serve as the main point of contact for drivers, brokers, and internal teams. Maintain open lines of communication to relay critical information, provide instructions, and address any issues or concerns that may arise during the shipping process.
Load Tracking and Monitoring: Utilize tracking systems and technology to monitor the progress of freight shipments. Regularly update stakeholders on the status of deliveries, proactively addressing any delays, changes, or issues that may impact delivery timelines.
Documentation and Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate records of dispatched loads, including relevant documentation, pickup and delivery times, and any incidents or accidents that occur. Generate reports on load assignments, driver performance, and other key metrics as required.
Problem Resolution: Identify and resolve operational challenges in a timely manner. Collaborate with drivers, brokers, and internal teams to address issues related to load assignments, route changes, or customer concerns, ensuring effective solutions are implemented.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or training in logistics or transportation management is advantageous.
- Previous experience in freight dispatching, logistics coordination, or a related field is preferred.
- Proficiency in using load boards and other freight sourcing platforms to identify available shipments.
- Strong negotiation skills and the ability to establish and maintain connections with brokers.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to effectively engage with brokers, drivers, and internal teams.
- Familiarity with routing software and GPS tracking systems for efficient route planning and load optimization.
- Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy in documentation and record-keeping.
- Ability to make quick decisions and work under pressure to meet time-sensitive deadlines.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and work varied shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Must have own computer and reliable internet connectivity.
