Overview:

The CDC Foundation is seeking a highly motivated individual to perform the duties of STI Prevention Coordinator. The STI Prevention Coordinator, under the general direction of the STI Section Chief, will play a crucial role in addressing sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and improving outcomes for focus populations at risk. This multifaceted position involves enhancing data collection, serving as a team lead for managing priority cases, compiling epidemiologic reports, and updating reporting forms. The STI Prevention Coordinator will also assist in training healthcare providers involved in STI prevention, ensuring cultural sensitivity, and disseminating resources. Building community capacity, mobilizing partners, and conducting program evaluation are key responsibilities. By harnessing diverse perspectives and engaging stakeholders, the position aims to reduce disparities and promote a comprehensive approach to STI prevention.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of a four-year college degree in public health, nursing, biology, zoology, bacteriology, social sciences, statistics, or a related field is required; graduate degree preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of administrative experience in a state or local STI/HIV prevention program, with extensive experience in providing STI/HIV disease intervention services.
  • Ability to exercise judgment and discretion in developing, implementing, and interpreting programmatic and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Four years of professional experience in communicable disease or infectious disease surveillance and/or control programs at the local, state, or federal level.
  • Two years of experience managing STI or HIV prevention and control programs, preferred.
  • Two years of experience with syphilis prevention and case management activities, preferred.
  • Experience developing, implementing, and interpreting programmatic and departmental policies and procedures, preferred.
  • Experience assisting in planning, coordinating, and implementing statewide training programs for healthcare providers, preferred.
  • Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet applications, and data systems management (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).

Responsibilities:

  • Enhance data collection, utilization, and reporting processes to improve STI prevention efforts, ensuring accurate and comprehensive data on focus populations.
  • Lead and manage cases among specific focus populations, such as pregnant people and infants exposed to STIs, including syphilis, and emerging STI conditions.
  • Compile and create Illinois epidemiologic data reports, analyzing and presenting data on females of reproductive age, pregnant females, and infants exposed to STIs or emerging conditions.
  • Update and improve electronic reporting forms and behavior risk data collection forms, providing clear guidance narratives for accurate and efficient data collection.
  • Disseminate prevention resources to Local Health Departments (LHDs), delivering content through recorded webinars and ensuring LHDs are equipped with the necessary information.
  • Expand existing prevention resources and services, focusing on increasing access to high-quality STI screening and treatment options.
  • Establish a community needs assessment tool and collaborate with LHDs to develop a public/community distribution process, identifying gaps and priorities within focus populations.
  • Develop evidence-based interventions tailored to the prevention of STIs and promotion of sexual health, considering the specific needs and challenges of the target populations.
  • Assist in planning, coordinating, and implementing statewide training programs for healthcare providers involved in STI prevention, including Disease Intervention Specialists (DIS) and Public Health Intervention Specialists (PHIS).
  • Ensure cultural and linguistic appropriateness of DIS interactions with affected populations, providing training and guidance to enhance understanding and sensitivity.
  • Develop train-the-trainer programs for PHIS to train LHD DIS and DIS supervisors, building capacity within the workforce for effective STI prevention strategies.
  • Collect and manage guidance documents, resources, and trainings related to focus populations, curating a repository on the intranet Microsoft SharePoint portal page for LHDs.
  • Develop and deliver cultural sensitivity training to staff directly working with affected populations, fostering a culturally and linguistically appropriate public health workforce.
  • Mobilize partners and build community capacity to address STI disparities, engaging diverse stakeholders to identify societal issues contributing to disparities and develop interventions.
  • Conduct program evaluation and continuous quality improvement efforts, utilizing surveillance and sociodemographic data to tailor interventions, evaluating training effectiveness, and monitoring performance indicators for ongoing improvement.

Roles and responsibilities listed above may be expanded upon or updated to match priorities and needs, once written approval is received by both the CDC Foundation and Illinois Department of Public Health, in order to best support the State of Illinois in their public health programming.

This position is currently a remote position. CDC Foundation retains the right to make adjustments to this as required.
